Watch Piers Review Video

If you don’t have time to watch the whole video, we have highlighted Piers’ key messages as he road-tests the 4760-125, a 125 mm parallel plier with nine v notches across one jaw, ranging from 0.4 mm to 6.0 mm in size. The second jaw is smooth apart from one v notch that aligns with the 6.0 mm v notch on the opposite jaw. Together they form a square hole that is perfect for gripping wire while not damaging your precious metals.

Piers highlights how the 'V' notches help his work and make his job that little bit easier.

"These are the Maun V Notch pliers. Part code 4760-125. As you can see, on one side, it's got notches all the way down and both sides at the bottom have a notch as well. These are used for holding wire. You can put round, square whatever you've got in there and it's going to hold it nice and tight. With minimal marking on the metal. Because of that V, you're distributing the pressure onto two points on one side and one on the other, instead of having it clamped, in a pair of snipe nose or something similar."

Piers explains why the design of the V Notch pliers are ideal for those who work with precious and soft metals.

"These are brilliant for a 90-degree angle on the end of your wire, whether it's square wire, round wire or whatever. You can put them in there and then just fall straight over the top and it's holding it at a nice 90-degree angle. They're really good for that."

He highlights another way to utilize the notches other than to hold wire. When wire is placed in the notches it aligns with the face of the plier at a 90 degree angle. This allows you to sand down your ends to a 90 degree angle.

"These are also in the size I like, they do them in a bigger size as well but for me, these are perfect, the 125 mm ones. Also, not what they're made for, but occasionally, they're quite good for, putting things down, through a draw plate because they do have that serrated edge. So, very good for that. I know it probably doesn't sound like I'm saying a lot, but they do what they say on the box and they're very good at what they do. So, if you often or you want a nice way of filing a nice flat to get a joint nice and tight. They’re brilliant.
