If you're working in a back box, an engine bay, or a crowded assembly, ordinary pivot pliers grip the part at one point and often slip. So we designed ours with parallel-action jaws that grip the part along the whole jaw face, so you get consistent grip even on a blind reach, and without excessive hand force.

Every pair of Maun pliers uses our signature parallel-action jaws, so the serrated faces hold along the full length of the workpiece instead of pinching at a single point.

  • Parallel-action jaws for a vice-like grip on fastenings and components: The jaws move in parallel throughout use, so both serrated faces make full contact along their length. With ordinary pivot pliers, the jaws meet at an angle and only touch at one point, which means small parts rock and twist loose when you're reaching into a recess you can barely see.
  • Zero-gap tip alignment for picking out fine wire: Our zero-gap tip alignment (the product of our stringent UK-made quality control process) means the tips meet squarely, with tips as fine as 3.0 x 1.5 mm on the 160 mm models. This means you can pull a single strand of wire from a crowded box, and trust that it won't slip.
  • Long tapered jaws for visibility and access in tight spaces: Useable jaw length is 50 mm on the 160 mm models and 70 mm on the 200 mm, with tips as fine as 3.0 x 1.5 mm. The taper keeps the body of the pliers out of your sightline, so you can see past the tool and place the jaws where you need them. Wire can be threaded down the throat of the pliers and held along the jaw length for straightening or positioning before you fix it.
  • Jaws case hardened to HRC 57 for durability: We case-harden every jaw to HRC 57 (a steel-hardness rating; higher means harder and more wear-resistant). The serrations keep their bite through years of daily use. On the side cutter models, both jaws and blades are hardened to the same HRC 57, with precision-machined and hardened blades for a clean, consistent cut.
  • Compound-lever action for progressive clamp force: This mechanism multiplies hand force and builds clamp force progressively. You get a firm, controlled grip without squeezing hard. On the side cutter models, the integrated cutter multiplies your hand force by 23x to 25x for less cutting effort.
  • Zinc-plated handles with a rust-resistant finish, in three options: Classic Steel handles have detailing for added grip. Return Spring models add a long-lasting return spring that reopens the jaws for you, for easy handling of parts on a repetitive run. Comfort Grip models add soft plastic grips that cushion the handle across a long session. All three are zinc-plated and rust-resistant, so pivots stay smooth after months of use and storage.
  • Made in England by Maun since 1944: We manufacture to ISO 9001 standards. The side cutter family is designed in accordance with BS 3087-7:1996 and ISO 5747:1995. Every pair carries a 12-month warranty, extendable to 2 years when you register the tool.

  • Gripping and positioning in a confined space: A clip or fastening has dropped behind a panel where your fingers won't fit. Our Long Nose Parallel Jaw Pliers grip along the whole jaw face with full serrated contact, so even when you can't see the part, it doesn't twist loose. The 160 mm gives you precise placement in shallow recesses; the 200 mm reaches deeper with 70 mm of useable jaw and a 13 mm opening.
  • Cutting wire to length and gripping it into position without swapping tools: You're trimming a hookup wire and bending the tail onto a terminal in the same movement. Picking up a separate cutter means losing your hold and your position. Our Long Nose Combination (Side Cutter Parallel) Pliers put the side cutter at the jaw throat, so you cut the wire and grip it in place without reaching for a separate cutter. The integrated cutter multiplies your hand force by 25x on the 160 mm and 23x on the 200 mm, so even piano wire (high-tensile hardened spring-steel wire, much harder to cut than ordinary wire) shears with little cutting effort. The 200 mm cuts up to 2.0 mm piano wire, 2.5 mm hard wire, and 4.0 mm soft wire.
  • Repetitive assembly where speed and fatigue matter: You're doing the same grip-and-release hundreds of times down a bench line, and opening the jaws by hand after each grip tires your hand and breaks your rhythm. The compact 160 mm keeps small repeated placements precise.

Can these long nose pliers cut wire?

The side cutter models can; the grip-only models cannot. The side cutter models have an integrated cutter with precision-machined blades hardened to HRC 57. The 160 mm cuts piano wire up to 1.6 mm, hard wire up to 2.0 mm, and soft wire up to 3.0 mm. The 200 mm cuts piano wire up to 2.0 mm, hard wire up to 2.5 mm, and soft wire up to 4.0 mm. The grip-only models have no cutter and are for gripping and positioning only.

Are these safe to use on live electrical wire?

No. Every model in this range carries an explicit warning: this tool must not be used on live electrical wire. The PVC comfort grips are for comfort, not electrical insulation. For work on live or potentially live conductors, insulated pliers are the correct tool.
