Every plier in this range grips, bends and cuts wire in one tool - better than any other combination plier out there.

The jaws are parallel-action, so they close flat and parallel, gripping along their full length (not just at the tips), and as the cutting mechanism is moved to the outside of the tool, you get far more gripping surface area to work with.

Our side-mounted compound-lever action cutter multiplies your hand force by up to 25x, so less effort and fatigue when cutting hard wire.

We case-harden our jaws to HRC 57 Rockwell C hardness, and make every plier at Maun in Nottinghamshire.

Maun's combination pliers are an upgrade of traditional combination pliers, moving the cutting edge to the outside of the tool, which gives you a much larger gripping area, making them more versatile for a range of professions and tasks.

  • Parallel jaws for full-length grip: Our jaws move in parallel throughout use and close exactly flat, gripping securely along their whole length. You avoid the pinch points and weak tip grip you get with scissor-action, because the jaws grip the whole workpiece, not just the tips, every time.
  • Compound-lever cutter for 23x to 25x force: Our side-mounted compound-lever cutter multiplies your hand force by 23x to 25x depending on model. On the 200 mm, that means cutting hard wire to 3.0 mm, soft wire to 6.0 mm and piano wire (high-carbon spring-steel wire, the toughest to cut) to 2.5 mm without forcing the handles, where lower quality tools go blunt or break.
  • Hardened edges from HRC 57 to HRC 62-65: We case-harden every jaw and blade to HRC 57, and the cutting edges on our 200 mm cutters reach HRC 62-65, near the top of what hand-tool steel can deliver (the long-nose 200 mm stays at HRC 57). If a tool doesn't publish its HRC number, you can probably assume it is either low or not hardened at all - so the edge will roll on hard wire or crack on impact.
  • Made in England, from our Nottinghamshire factory: We manufacture in Nottinghamshire, where our engineering team averages 25 years of plier-making experience. The hardening, the assembly and the testing all happen in our Hamilton Road factory. We don't import and rebrand.

Maun Gripping and Cutting Range. From Consumer Units to Fencing Repair.

Our combination range spans six sizes from 125 mm to 200 mm, with options for different trades and wire types.

  • Pipe, conduit and threaded fittings alongside wire: Our Combination Parallel Plier 180 mm carries an integrated serrated pipe grip that clamps round pipe, rod and tube between the parallel jaws, while the side cutter cuts wire alongside it. When you're mid-install switching from gripping a conduit fitting to trimming a wire tail, you keep the same tool in your hand. The pipe grip takes the place of the V-slot (a V-shaped groove along one jaw that feeds and holds round wire or rod) on our other models.
  • Everyday hard-wire and cable work: When you're straightening, de-kinking and cutting wire to length, our Side Cutter Parallel Plier For Hard Wire 160 mm carries a V-slot along one jaw that feeds and holds it securely. Drop your wire into the slot and your other hand is free to work. The 160 mm cuts hard wire to 2.5 mm on HRC 57 jaws and blades; step to the 200 mm for 3.0 mm hard wire and HRC 62-65 cutting edges, though those 200 mm sizes are out of stock right now.
  • Working on or near live circuits: Our 1000V Insulated Side Cutter Parallel Plier For Hard Wire 160 mm is one of only two insulated models in this range certified for live electrical work. It meets IEC 60900:2018 (the international standard for insulated hand tools, rated up to 1000V AC and 1500V DC), with industrial-grade polymer handles and hand-stops (raised guards that stop your hand sliding toward the head of the plier). We dielectrically test every insulated tool to 10,000V (well above its working rating, to prove the insulation holds) and hard-mark the double-triangle 1000V symbol into the handle, not stickered. When you're trimming and dressing conductors in a panel that's still live, this is the tool certified to do it safely.
  • Reaching into tight spaces and deep recesses: Our Long Nose Side Cutter Parallel Plier 200 mm gives you 70 mm of useable jaw length tapering to a 4.0 x 2.0 mm tip, so you reach into recesses and behind obstructions that standard-nose jaws can't get into. The parallel action still grips along the full jaw length, not just at the tip. The 160 mm gives you 50 mm of reach with a 3.0 x 1.5 mm tip.
  • Precious-metal wire without marking: For gold, silver, copper and gilding wire (thin soft copper or brass wire used in jewellery and craft), our Smooth Jaws Semi-Flush Cut Side Cutter Parallel Plier for Soft Wire 125 mm grips it on smooth, non-marring jaws (no tooth-marks or dents on soft metal, unlike serrated) that hold evenly along their full length. The semi-flush cutter (leaves an almost-flat wire end with minimal pinch to file) trims wire ends clean, so your work comes off the jaw without marks to finish out. We developed this plier in partnership with the Birmingham School of Jewellery.
  • Orthodontic wire and surgical bone pins: For instruments that cycle through the autoclave between patients, our Side Cutter Parallel Plier Autoclave Safe 140 mm has zinc-plated jaws that withstand repeated autoclave (high-pressure steam sterilisation) cycles without discolouring, so it comes out clean. We designed it for trimming orthodontic wire (the thin archwire fitted to dental braces) and thin surgical bone pins, where the parallel jaws hold fine wire steady while the cutter trims to length. Available in 140 mm and 160 mm.
  • High-tensile electric fencing wire: Our Fencing Plier 200 mm is built on our heaviest 200 mm chassis with cutting edges hardened to HRC 62-65, for the kind of high-tensile wire (fencing wire under high spring tension, hard to hold and hard to cut) that blunts softer cutters. The V-slot feeds wire along the full jaw length, and the serrated parallel jaws hold the springy strand without slipping. When a fence line comes down and you need the wire back up, you retension, grip and cut your way along the run without the edges going soft. Both fencing pliers are out of stock at the moment.

Which of these combination pliers can be used on live electrical wire?

The 1000V Insulated Side Cutter Parallel Plier For Hard Wire 200 mm and the 1000V Insulated Side Cutter Parallel Plier For Hard Wire 160 mm are the only two models in this range certified for live electrical work, to IEC 60900:2018, usable up to 1000V AC and 1500V DC. Every other plier in this range is uninsulated and carries a printed warning that it must not be used on live wire.

How long is the warranty on Maun combination pliers?

Every plier in this range carries a 12-month warranty as standard, extendable to two years on registration.
