Insulated Pliers

(Showing 4 of 4)

Providing safety when working on electrical systems up to 1000V AC.

Electricians. Engineers. Trademen. Anyone working with live current deserves pliers that protect without compromise. That’s why Maun’s signature compound-lever and parallel-action pliers are now available insulated to the rigorous IEC 60900:2018 standards.

Built to perform. Engineered to protect.

Maun Insulated Pliers. Certified Protection On Electrical Circuits.

Maun insulated pliers are engineered for electricians, maintenance engineers and automotive technicians who need certified protection without compromising on grip, cutting force or precision.

Every tool carries the IEC 60900:2018 mark - individually dielectrically tested to 10,000V and rated for live work up to 1000V AC / 1500V DC. Two distinct action types let you choose the right mechanism for the task: parallel-action side cutters that grip, manipulate and cut in one tool, or compound-lever diagonal cutters that multiply hand force by up to 25x.

  • IEC 60900:2018 Certified Insulation: We individually test every plier to 10,000V before it leaves our Nottinghamshire workshop - the same facility where we develop bespoke tools for GE Power and Airbus. This means each tool carries a verified certification for live working up to 1000V AC, with the official double-triangle symbol hard-marked on the body (not a sticker, not just on the packaging).
  • Parallel-Action and Compound-Lever Mechanisms: We offer two action types in the insulated range: parallel-action side cutters that grip evenly across their full jaw length, and compound-lever diagonal cutters that multiply hand force from 18x to 25x. This gives you a gripping-and-cutting tool and a dedicated cutter in the same certified family. Scissor-action pliers concentrate force at the tip - parallel jaws maintain even pressure regardless of where the workpiece sits.
  • Case-Hardened and Induction-Hardened Cutting Edges: Our parallel models use case-hardened blades at HRC 57, while the diagonal cutters are induction-hardened to HRC 64 - at the top end of what hand tool steel can achieve before becoming brittle. This delivers clean cuts through piano wire up to 2.5 mm and hard wire up to 3.0 mm without edge deformation, where edges below HRC 55 would roll and dull on the same wire.
  • Moulded Hand-Stop Safety Grips: We mould a hand-stop directly into the industrial-grade polymer insulation on every handle. This prevents your hand from sliding forward onto exposed metal during use - a safety feature that matters most when your grip is compromised by perspiration, cable grease or the awkward angles of a cramped back box.
  • Three Sizes for Specific Electrical Tasks: We offer 140 mm, 160 mm and 200 mm because in our experience, the right length for confined panel work is not the right length for heavy cable. This lets you select 140 mm for tight consumer units, 160 mm as the all-round second fix tool, or 200 mm for first fix wiring and gripping square or hexagonal fastenings.

Maun Insulated Pliers are Designed For Electricians

Each certified plier in this range is built for a specific type of electrical work. Whether you need a compact cutter for confined panel wiring or a full-size parallel tool for heavy first fix cable, browse the range below to find the right match for your application.

  • 1000V Insulated Side Cutter Parallel Plier For Hard Wire 160 mm - The 160 mm all-rounder for second fix wiring and junction box work. Parallel jaws with 23x force multiplication grip, cut and manipulate wire in one tool - the V-slot feeds wire along the full jaw length so you are not just pinching the end. Handles up to 2.0 mm piano wire and 4.0 mm soft wire.
  • 1000V Insulated Side Cutter Parallel Plier For Hard Wire 200 mm - Best for heavy-gauge cable and first fix installations where you need both grip and cutting power. 25x force multiplication with HRC 62-65 cutting edges, plus a vice-like grip on square and hexagonal fastenings. Cuts through 2.5 mm piano wire and 6.0 mm soft wire.
  • 1000V Insulated Diagonal Cutting Plier For Hard Wire 160 mm - Designed for clean, dedicated cutting when you need precision. Compound-lever action with 22x force multiplication and induction-hardened jaws at HRC 64. Pair it alongside a parallel plier so each tool handles the task it was built for.
  • 1000V Insulated Diagonal Cutting Plier For Hard Wire 140 mm - Need to cut wire in a tight consumer unit or restricted back box? The compact 140 mm body fits where larger cutters cannot reach. HRC 64 jaws with 18x force multiplication handle up to 1.6 mm piano wire.

Are your pliers VDE?

No they are not, but they are tested to the internationally recognised standard of IEC 60900:2018. VDE is simply a 3rd party German testing organisation that verifies compliance with IEC 60900:2018. A tool can be fully IEC-certified without VDE testing.

The safety standard is IEC 60900:2018 - VDE is one route to proving compliance, not the only one. Non-VDE tools (like Maun's) that carry the IEC 60900:2018 certification are equally safe.
